draft design

This image is a draft of whats to come. This area is the bar space located ontop of one of the existing warehouses edgeing onto the water, keeping with the waterside theme.
The steel structure holding it up relate back to the folie, representing part of an anchor, bringing the history back into the site.

Supper Club - theme

Due to the relaxed, laid back nature of below the story bridge, a quieter area located just away from the hub of the city, I have chosen to go with a more relaxed type Supper Club. As it is located on the waterside, it will be themed around the serenity and calming nature of water. Therefore the club will provide a top level which comprises of a dining area - with all the amenities necessary (kitchen/toilets etc). The ground level will be the main access level which will be a bar setting again with all the necessary amenities. The lower level will be a split level, below ground. This will be the multi-purpose space which a range of activities/performances can occupy. Such performances will include bands and acoustic acts with genres such as blues/reggae/alternative/acoustic etc. The lighting will be ambient and relaxing, not too up beat or low key but just enough to keep the visitor relaxed and welcome. Materials that are in mind include - steel/concrete/glass/driftwood type timber. This is to relate back to the original folie concept of keeping with the historic nature of the site - the former docking port of Brisbane - (bringing back the old into the new). The new site aims at engaging the visitor into part of Brisbanes history while providing a totally new atmosphere and structure.

San Francisco Supper Club examples

Project 2 - Supper Club

Started this project by researching what in actual fact a supper club was.
-place to dine and be entertained
-visually active -lighting/performances/food/themes/materials
-all about creating a unique experience for the visitor
-generally a surprise/adventure once inside the premisis
-materials and lighting play a major role in how the space affects the viewer, how it entertains them, how it affects their senses, moods and the way people will act in the space.
-the clubs seem to have very specific themes or target audiences they want to attract or portray
for example the San Francisco supper club targets the more alternative people in society such as drag queens/transvestites/gay/lesbian/circus etc. all the themed night revolve around things that the 'norm' in society wouldnt really accept as such. It is not conservative in any way, very up front and in your face which creates a scene that people are intrigued by and want to experience. The club also focuses on highly effective lighting situations as well as space layout with the main area in the central room, therefore people are lead through the building by layers going through bars and other spaces eventually getting the the centre where all the performances are located as well as the dining on large roman style beds instead of standard dining table situations.

folie ideas

Folie idea - the bring back the history wuthin the site as people arent aware of the signifigance it has and definately once had, being the main shipping dock of brisbane before the storey bridge was built. The folie was to create awareness of the heritage of the site and its remaining structures and also an interactive symbol of the history. It is more so important as the site will be under going some major development to re-gain interest that the historic aspects are not lost in the modern way, that they are kept to teach the public of how the site began and where it is today.
